3 Amazing weeks in Myanmar.

We returned to Yangon for a couple of nights at the end of our trip to Myanmar.

After our gruelling overnight bus from Inle Lake, (I slept for a total of 10 minutes!) we actually arrived ahead of schedule at 05:00am. It was obviously too early to check in so after sitting in the foyer we decided to get breakfast at the hotel. We got to check in at 08:30am. (Probably because we bought the breakfast!) Time to sleep!

This time we stayed in the Best Western Chinatown. We had a room on the 11th floor with amazing views of the Shwedagon Pagoda!

Some last minute shopping at Bogyoke Market but always bearing in mind our home is a long way off and what we buy we have to carry in one backpack!

Myanmar is somewhere we had wanted to visit for a while. While we loved it, it did have it’s challenges.

Our favourite place was Bagan. Everything about it was great: the people, the amazing pagodas, the hotel. The money was easy to work with. There are no coins. Most things were cheap compared to Thailand. The main challenges were the traffic: there are no rules, everyone will cut you up; green lights mean nothing! The weather: it was 40+c most days. I would suggest going December to March. Or after the rainy season when, we were told, everything is lush and green. Unless you want to experience it, I would avoid Thingyan, the Burmese New Year. You will get wet. Very wet, for 3 to 4 days and most things are shut. The rubbish: there is garbage everywhere. The locals don’t seem to notice it or mind. Spitting: men and women!

Everything is evolving and places all become alike so you should come to Myanmar and soon!
