A little street in Singapore

We’d been to Singapore a few times and always ended up in Little India so decided to initially base ourselves there. HUGE MISTAKE! We had booked a little hotel overlooking a busy street. As soon as we arrived we knew we had made the wrong choice. We had to carry our bags up a steep flight of stairs. The whole place smelled musty. It looked like it hadn’t been updated in years. Our room was up another flight of stairs and it was awful. It was cramped and dirty. There were ominous ‘yellow’ stains on the bed. We wondered why it was so noisy and realised the window was open with the handle missing. We went back down to reception so were given another room but this one was worse with the bathroom sink leaking everywhere. It was our first night in Singapore and we were very disappointed. It was getting late. We looked around and decided the hotel next door looked okay but we asked to see the room, just in case. It was better but not great but we decided to take it anyway. The man in reception of the original hotel said ‘no refund.’ We didn’t care. We couldn’t wait to get out! We found a great little restaurant close by called Al Bismi which was very busy with locals. Jeff had butter paneer massala. I had dhal tadka. It didn’t disappoint. The next day we visited some temples and took the MRT to Chinatown. Lots of bargain shopping.
